Salary: Grade 4: £27,838 - £31,459 with a discretionary range to £34,046 p.a. This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,500 per year.
We are seeking to appoint a Laboratory Support Technician who is an enthusiastic, motivated individual with experience in a relevant scientific environment, has previously maintained laboratory equipment and is aware and knowledgeable of the Health and Safety requirements involved in scientific research. Educated to A Level standard or equivalent, you should be computer literate, organised, able to work accurately under pressure and to challenging deadlines, have good communication skills and work well both independently and as part of a team.
You will be responsible for maintaining and managing institute stocks of chemicals, laboratory reagents, and consumables for the whole Institute. You will prepare general-use buffers, bacterial growth media, and agar plates according to provided Standard Operating Procedures. With training, you will order and receipt goods and services using Oracle R12 procurement software. On a daily basis you will communicate with goods-in staff, and members of the department, organise and distribute incoming goods to their respective users and store stock items.
It is essential that you are educated to A-level or equivalent in a scientific subject and have recent experience working in a laboratory environment. You must have strong attention to detail with good organisational skills and IT skills including a knowledge of Word, Excel (i.e. databases) and PowerPoint programs. Ability to organise your own workload and take initiative as appropriate, flexibility and ability to work independently as well as being part of a team is required.
