About the role

We’re seeking a credible and confident individual to drive positive staff health and wellbeing at the University of Bath. We are currently one of only 15 Universities to have been awarded the Universities Mental Health Charter, which recognises our whole university approach to mental health and wellbeing. You will build on these significant steps by leading on the staff facing elements of our "Be Well at Bath" initiative and acting as our Subject Matter Expert on staff wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging and networking with staff, leaders, managers and experts across the university.
  • Representing staff wellbeing in strategic meetings such as the Be Well Steering Group, Departmental Wellbeing Action Planning and Suicide Prevention Working Group to proactively develop actions and initiatives that enhance staff wellbeing.
  • Developing and supporting the implementation of evidence-based wellbeing interventions for staff and leading on projects that enhance a healthy culture.
  • Leading the communication plan for staff wellbeing; developing and updating intranet pages, writing blogs and articles and agreeing a wellbeing calendar of events.
  • Leading a network of volunteer Staff Wellbeing Champions, supporting and cultivating this community of practice
  • Providing training and other interventions, or sourcing these from external providers, to embed health and wellbeing approaches across the organisation.

You’ll be based in the University's Safety, Health and Employee Wellbeing Service which provides institution-wide professional guidance and support on general and specific health and wellbeing matters. This is not a counselling or mental health practitioner role, though on occasions you will work with individuals to signpost suitable support.

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days per week on campus, although this may vary due to the consulting nature of the role and requirements of stakeholders.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working in a large and complex environment
  • A professional qualification (degree level or equivalent) in a Human Resource, Occupational/Organisational Psychology or Health and Wellbeing related subject area. Alternatively, you will have a broad-based business qualification supported by practical experience in a significant range of wellbeing and positive mental health initiatives and programmes, including contributing to guidance and policy in related areas.
  • Experience in coaching, with a suitable qualification and memberships of relevant professional body’s, such as the CIPD/BPS.
  • Experience of using the Health and Safety Executive's management standards to support the development of action plans to continuously drive staff wellbeing forward.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to write reports and present key information to a variety of audiences, including at a strategic level
  • Confidence, credibility and collaboration skills to constructively challenge accepted practices and norms, manage change effectively and express empathy to support people, within boundaries, who may be experiencing difficult or challenging situations
  • Creativity and initiative to solve complex problems, and plan and manage several projects simultaneously.

You’ll be an effective role model and have strategies for effectively managing your own wellbeing, remaining calm and resilient under pressure with the ability to respond to changing circumstances or priorities to deliver a varied and sometimes challenging workload.
