Warden (Part-Time, Permanent, 0.78 FTE)
Start Date: 29th September 2025

As a Warden, you will provide pastoral care, uphold the University’s standards of student conduct, and help ensure our halls remain safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments. You will be part of a supportive and experienced team, working collaboratively with fellow Wardens, Hall Mentors, University Security, our accommodation partner UPP and Student Wellbeing Services to create a positive student residential experience.

We are looking for someone with a high level of emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and the confidence to support students through a wide range of issues. You must be approachable and compassionate, yet able to maintain clear boundaries and enforce the University’s Regulations for Student Conduct with fairness and consistency. The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure is essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Offering proactive pastoral support to students living in University accommodation.
  • Upholding community standards by managing conduct issues, while also offering pastoral care in response to wider student wellbeing needs.
  • Participating in a year-round, 24/7 on-call rota alongside University Security to respond to urgent issues and provide timely in-person support.

This role requires you to live on campus. In return, we provide free on-site accommodation (minimum two bedrooms), including utilities and council tax. Please note the accommodation benefit is subject to ‘benefit in kind’ taxation under HMRC rules.

The role can be emotionally demanding and occasionally challenging. It involves supporting students through complex and sensitive situations, so resilience, empathy, discretion, and sound judgment are vital. A good level of physical mobility is also necessary, as the position involves moving around campus, including areas that may not be fully accessible.
For more information about the role, on-call duties, and living arrangements, please consult the Recruitment Guide.

Safeguarding Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Undertake safeguarding training and follow the University’s Safeguarding Children & Adults at Risk Policy at all times.
  • Consider Safeguarding in Risk Assessment processes for events and activities you deliver.
  • Report any disclosures or concerns using the Safeguarding Incident Form and submit this to the Lead Designated Safeguarding Officers.

An Enhanced DBS with a child barred list check is required for this position. This role is a regulated activity. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.
