The School of Security Studies includes the Department of War Studies, the Defence Studies Department and the King’s Institute for Applied Security Studies.
The residential Education team is responsible for approximately 700 undergraduate and 700 taught postgraduate students based on the Strand campus.

About the role
The School of Security Studies seeks to recruit a Senior Education Manager to provide management and team leadership for taught degree programme support, and to contribute to the School’s strategic development initiatives. The School delivers a wide range of degree programmes, including both residential and online, as well as online short courses and professional education programmes. Working mainly with the Department of War Studies (DWS), the roleholder will also coordinate with the School’s online and professional education manager (who works mainly with DSD and KIASS), jointly overseeing the School’s education support services for students and academic colleagues. The roleholder will lead the residential programme administration team of eight staff.
Reporting to the Head of School Operations and the Faculty’s Associate Director, Education, you will contribute to, and provide support for, the School’s strategic planning, and for the leadership of the Department of War Studies. In supporting the effective delivery of programme administration, you will foster a consistent, high level of professionalism and customer service, ensuring that service delivery issues are addressed and resources utilised. You will work with the team to ensure that the University’s and Faculty’s strategic education projects are aligned and operationalised at academic department and school level. You will also be responsible for the quality assurance of new and ongoing residential programmes, and for supporting the academic workload allocation management system (WAMS) for War Studies staff.
Successful candidates will have a proactive approach to leadership with strong experience of line management and creating high performing motivated teams. You will have a good understanding of programme administration in Higher Education, a commitment to continuous improvement, and excellent communication skills.
The role is based on the Strand Campus in London, with occasional travel to the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham (the location of DSD and the majority of the School’s professional education delivery).
SSPP embraces equality, diversity and inclusion. We attract students and staff from across the world, from many different backgrounds, with a variety of ethnicities, religions, and sexual and gender identities. We promote flexible working as a key enabler of inclusion. We particularly encourage and welcome applications from women, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, and from candidates who are LGBTQ+ and/or have a disability.
This role is currently offered on a hybrid basis, and the role-holder will spend a minimum of two days of their working week on campus and the rest of the week working remotely.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
