Spanning the historic streets of the “city of dreaming spires,” the University of Oxford has been ranked the world’s leading university for nine consecutive years. A place where centuries of tradition meet world-changing innovation, we offer you the chance to shape the future while working in an inspiring environment that promotes excellence.

Here, you’ll contribute to ground-breaking research tackling global challenges—from advancing sustainability to pioneering healthcare solutions—and join a diverse, inclusive community that champions your wellbeing, development, and aspirations. Apply now to become part of our extraordinary legacy.

About the Role
  • We have an exciting opportunity to join the IT Services Department as a Research Technology Specialist within the Research Support Services Team.
  • This role focuses particularly on the Research File Service (RFS) —  https://help.it.ox.ac.uk/rfs — and involves working as part of a virtual Continuous Improvement (CI) team using agile methodologies to iteratively enhance research data storage services.
  • You'll also support researchers across the University by providing technical consultancy, expert advice, and practical support—engaging with researchers at all levels of technical knowledge to improve the way research data is managed and used.
  • Our small but impactful team supports a range of services for Oxford’s research community—including RFS, Electronic Lab Notebooks, and DigiSafe—and plays an important role in several digital transformation initiatives within the University's research programme.
About You
To succeed in this varied and rewarding role, you will ideally:
  • Have experience in research or research support, and enjoy applying this to solve new challenges.
  • Be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) with confidence in engaging colleagues, researchers, and academic staff.
  • Bring a collaborative, positive attitude and a passion for improving research data management and infrastructure.
  • As RFS runs on Windows server clusters, experience with Microsoft Windows systems administration is important. However, we support users across all operating systems—so broad technical familiarity is highly valued.
  • This role may suit candidates from research software engineering or IT support backgrounds, and we welcome secondments from within these communities.
We encourage applications from individuals who may not meet every single criterion but feel they could bring relevant skills, experience, or potential to the role. If you're excited about this opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.

What We Offer
Working at Oxford brings a range of exclusive benefits, including:
  • 38 days of annual leave (including public holidays), with options to purchase additional days and accrue further leave after long service.
  • One of the most generous maternity and adoption leave schemes in UK higher education.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements to suit your lifestyle.
  • An excellent contributory pension scheme.
  • Affordable and sustainable commuting options, such as a cycle loan scheme, discounted bus travel, and season ticket loans.
  • Access to a vibrant University community through social, cultural, and sports clubs.
Application Process
To apply, please upload:
  • A covering letter/supporting statement
  • Your CV
  • The details of two referees
The closing date for applications is Monday 16 June at 12:00 noon

Interviews will take place on the week commencing 23 June and be carried out in person in central Oxford.
