About the Role
We invite applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Centre for Genomics and Child Health at the Blizard Institute, to assist with our project “ A study of haematopoietic stem cell health and function in sickle cell disease (SCD) and other haematological diseases”. The research project aims to understand the nature of deficits in haematopoietic stem cell number and function, focusing on the role of hypoxia signalling and potential pharmacological modulation of the pathway through proline hydroxylase inhibitors. We hope that this study will provide insights into disease mechanisms in SCD and for the optimisation of genetically modified haematopoietic stem cells for therapy. The project is already underway, and we are collecting a resource of bone marrow samples from patients and controls. The project is funded by a Bart’s Charity grant.
About You
The successful applicant will have a PhD degree (or close to completion) and experience in laboratory-based research involving haematopoietic stem cells.
