The role

This role is an exciting opportunity to lead on co-creating a new HE qualification.

The Lecturer and Micro-Qualification Lead will oversee the academic development and co-design of a micro-qualification as part of the University’s new micro-campus at the Gatehouse Centre in Hartcliffe and Withywood as well as the delivery and evaluation of two pilots.

The post is part of a project funded by the Office for Students’ Equality of Opportunity Innovation fund, awarded in January 2025, and led by the University of Bristol and Hartcliffe and Withywood Ventures (HWV) who will work together with employers, further education colleges, and community partners. The Gatehouse Centre, run by HWV, is in an area with the lowest level of participation in higher education in Bristol and among the lowest in the UK.

What will you be doing?

There are 4 main elements to this role:

Co-design

The postholder will lead the co-design of the micro-qualification, working closely with the Academic Director (Civic Spaces), who acts as project lead.

Teaching

The postholder will convene and will be expected to contribute substantially to the teaching and delivery of the 2 pilots of the micro-qualification.

Evaluation

The postholder will assist the Academic Director (Civic Spaces) in implementing a robust evaluation strategy for the project.

Administration

The postholder will assist the Academic Director (Civic Spaces) in relevant administration of the project and support the Civic Engagement Manager for the Hartcliffe micro-campus in routine administration of the space where required, including working in the micro-campus as part of the team.

You should apply if

  • You have a record of experience of teaching in a relevant discipline (such as business, education, innovation, futures thinking and/or the humanities) or in an interdisciplinary context, including acting as coordinating tutor for units, modules, or courses.
  • You have a capacity to convene modules and work flexibly outside their usual areas of expertise.
  • You have experience of working with mature learners and an awareness of the multiple barriers some individuals and communities may face in accessing educational opportunities.
  • You can demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and creatively with others to develop a new programme that is innovative and responsive to a particular community and to local employment or entrepreneurship opportunities.
  • You have an understanding of the skills and educational ecosystem in south Bristol, including in Hartcliffe and Withywood, or in comparable contexts.
