The Learning Development teams will collaborate with academic and other professional services staff to design and deliver inclusive and innovative learning and assessment activities, embedded within the curriculum, that engage students to develop the academic English and academic literacies required to ensure integrity and confidence in their academic practice whilst optimising any learning differences. They will establish relevant scaffolded co-curricular, small group, short course and one to one support to help students consolidate, fill gaps and improve their skills to maximise the chances of achieving successful programme outcomes. 

The Senior Learning Developer will employ relevant learning development credentials and experience to understand and address the needs of the diverse cohort of students across the university and specifically with disciplines within the College of Health, Science and Society (CHSS). They will lead the work of other staff teaching and facilitating learning, in a range of contexts, identifying the best and most inclusive approaches to ensure equity of opportunity for students to meet their learning outcomes. This will require teaching, coaching and role modelling effective learning and assessment strategies, embracing new technologies, to enable students to become academically and AI literate as they progress through their learning journey.

This will require providing academic and assessment literacy support to students both within and aligned to the curriculum, tailoring approaches and resources to help students to develop appropriate learning strategies, techniques and capabilities to meet their needs. It will mean actively participating in scheduled meetings across the university, such as School Boards of Study, programme/cluster meetings and project groups, working collaboratively with academic staff, attending and offering regular continuing professional development events and engaging in peer support schemes to maintain high quality professional practice.

About you

You will be qualified to graduate level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience and will have a relevant professional qualification/certification or experience relating to one or more of the following: 

  • Librarianship 
  • Learning Development  
  • Teaching (university students, English Language, specialist study skills/additional learning needs) 
  • Higher Education Academy Fellowship  

You will also be able to show evidence of sustained continuing professional development (CPD). 

You will possess excellent knowledge, interest and expertise in learning development and support of students’ academic literacy requirements and be able to lead on the development of academic literacy/study skills within and alongside the curriculum and on projects/activities to achieve inclusive and student-centred learning. 

You need to understand the application of pedagogical principles to the creation of content for blended, online and classroom delivery.  

You will have effective written and verbal communicate skills to present complex and conceptual ideas clearly across diverse audiences and stay up to date with digital developments.

Where is this role based?

This part time post is based at our Glenside Campus which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles north east of Bristol City Centre.
