One Research Associate position exists in the data-driven mechanics Laboratory at the Department of Engineering. The role is to set up a machine learning framework to predict the plastic behaviour of polycrystalline metals. The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK. The key responsibilities and duties include setting up the framework; validating the results using theory and experiments; supporting other group members with data analysis and interpretation from both simulations and experimental data; and use the developed framework to design new materials with optimised performance. The role holder is expected to support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence in research and teaching by producing high quality results which will be published in peer-reviewed journals and disseminate at national and international conferences. They will also assist with writing reports for funding bodies and with grant administration. The role holder is expected to work and interact with other members of Division C in the Engineering Department as well as our industrial partners. They will contribute to seminars and to take part in the research group's broader research activities. The applicant will have obtained or be close to obtaining a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Research Assistant: £32,546 - £35,116

Research Associate: £37,174 - £45,413

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
