Part-time, 0.8 FTE
We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Midwife to join the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise as a University Practitioner. This part time post (0.8 FTE) allows the successful applicant to deliver an inspirational learning experience to our undergraduate learners while continuing their midwifery practice.
The Department is one of three within the School of Human and Health Sciences and offers a wide range of excellent educational provision across eight allied health professions, midwifery, public health, and sport. We deliver a range of established and new apprenticeships, pre-registration, and post-graduate courses.
The University of Huddersfield is a thriving institution with expanding, state-of-the art teaching, research, and clinical facilities in the National Health Innovation Campus. We have a diverse student body and work closely with our public partnership group, as well as health and social care, and education partners.
Huddersfield is a vibrant town, close to beautiful countryside and with excellent road and rail links to Manchester, Leeds, and Sheffield. In 2023, the University was awarded the TEF Gold award, and its apprenticeship provision was graded as “Outstanding” by Ofsted.
This University Practitioner role is ideal for midwives who are interested in educating the future workforce. You will collaborate with experienced academic and professional services colleagues to develop and facilitate learners’ knowledge, skills, and professional attributes on a course that is contemporary, future-looking, and enables graduates to meet the challenges of service users and service needs. A commitment to providing an innovative, student- and apprentice-centred learning experience is essential.
You must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Midwife. A Master’s degree or equivalent or requirement to complete this within 12 months of the appointment is required, along with Fellow membership to the Higher Education Academy or requirement to obtain this within 12 months of the appointment.
With recent experience of teaching and assessing midwifery within a clinical or higher education setting, you will bring subject and practice expertise in contemporary midwifery. We would particularly welcome applications from midwives with training and experience in neonatal and infant physical examination (or equivalent).
This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular professional status checks may also be required, according to your role.
As a Practitioner we expect you to be actively engaged in practice in addition to your role at the University. This can be either through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.
