You should be able to present these practical skills in the context of the history and aesthetics of photography to novice learners from a variety of backgrounds.

What you would be doing

In this role you will devise and deliver face-to-face learning sessions to adult education learners from a variety of backgrounds. You should have the ability to explain and demonstrate the use of DSLR photography technology, and where appropriate photograph-editing software, in a way that is sensitive to the wide range of experiences adult learners bring to the classes. You will make use of appropriate interactive and inclusive activities designed to maintain high levels of learner interest and motivation. You will be expected to be pro-active in the delivery of the course, engaging with the learners on their educational journey.

You will introduce learners to various technologies and methodologies for digital photography including:

  • Using a DSLR camera effectively
  • Composing and editing photographic images
  • Using photography editing and presentation software.

You will deliver a highly interactive course, with an emphasis on the use of practical activities, individual and group work, discussions, multimedia, and other diverse forms of delivery rather than traditional lectures, although slide presentations to introduce and enable discussion of practical techniques and historical photography should be part of the programme. Hands-on practical workshops will be your primary teaching method.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an individual with proven competence in teaching of practical digital photography in the adult education of higher education sectors. You will have experience of course design and familiarity with a variety of learner-centred strategies to promote effective teaching. To be successful in this post, you will be able to work flexibly as part of a team in an open-minded and cooperative manner, with strong communication and organisational skills. This position will suit an individual with a high level of competency in digital photography hardware and software, with an understanding of the needs of lifelong learners, and able to travel to west London on a weekly basis to deliver the course on a face-to-face basis.
