Essex Sport delivers a wide range of opportunities for both our University community of staff and students, and the wider community from the local and regional area to access facilities and sport and fitness activities in the pursuit of making people happier and healthier and positively changing lives.

Volleyball is one of our focus sports, where we have actively developed a national reputation for excellence. Competing in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions we have won national championships, whilst our Essex Rebels teams play in elite national leagues and competitions. Alongside this we have developed innovative fan engagement programmes and won national awards for gameday entertainment and grown a large schools and community engagement programme.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a volleyball performance coach to join our programme, leading the coaching for our BUCS and national Superleague men’s teams.

Duties of the Role

Develop and deliver an elite-level university volleyball programme.

Lead the preparation and coaching of the men’s volleyball first team including in BUCS competitions, and the Essex Rebels team in national or professional league competitions.

Deliver an athlete-centred, high-performance culture that results in competitive excellence and success.

Support staff delivering activities associated with the University’s fan experience plan and Essex Rebels marketing plan, placing volleyball game days at the centre of the student campus experience, and engaging the wider local community.

Skills and qualifications required

• Demonstrable experience of working within a high-performance volleyball programme
• Experience of coaching volleyball at elite level, or elite junior level
• Experience of devising, monitoring and reviewing high performance volleyball training and competition plans
• Current Volleyball England Level 2 Coaching qualification or working towards
• Knowledge of Volleyball England talent pathways and structures within the UK
• Ability to plan and organise activities effectively, and to work using own initiative and good time management
• Excellent communication, player management and motivation skills
• An ability to develop effective relationships within volleyball and the wider high-performance sporting community
