We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cancer Biology to join the GO-PRECISE CRC-VAX project, a highly exciting initiative funded by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), based at the Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford. The post aims to assist with the preparation and molecular characterisation of tumours using multi-omic analysis focusing principally on the mechanisms and consequences of immune escape in colorectal cancers (CRC) and pre-cancers.
You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will undertake laboratory work as required, such as sample preparation, cell culture, analysis of tumour samples and, tissue staining. Other responsibilities include testing hypotheses and analysing scientific data from a variety of sources, including sequencing and transcriptomics (including spatial transcriptomics), reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate, and contributing ideas for new research projects.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a relevant scientific discipline such as molecular biology, genetics or other related discipline, and have experience of the genetic/molecular analysis of human diseases, such as cancer. You will be able to work with a high degree of independence, to learn rapidly and to master several laboratory techniques, and to commit to high standards, including record keeping and laboratory management. Basic bioinformatics skills or a willingness to learn them, and an understanding or interest in spatial biology procedures is highly desirable for this position.
