Salary: £43,374 to £51,860
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

IOE is the UCL Faculty of Education and Society.

Founded in 1902, IOE has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The UCL Knowledge Lab is a world-renowned research institute. The Lab leads cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research investigating the ways technologies reshape how we connect, interact, collaborate and create knowledge.

We are looking for an early career researcher or PhD student at their final stages to work with us in the UKRI CHAILD project.

CHAILD is UKRI-funded project that aims to establish a foundational understanding of children's agency in digital environments increasingly dominated by AI systems. The UCL team is specifically focusing on the educational technology angle, developing agency-fostering prototypes through co-design with children, creating evaluation frameworks to assess children's algorithmic agency in educational contexts, and establishing design principles that prioritize children's values in AI-powered learning tools.

In this post you will lead the design and/or development of AI-based systems that foster learner agency and learning.

In addition, you will work directly with various stakeholders particularly children (pupils) and teachers.

With a Doctoral degree (or near completion) in AI or HCI (preferably applied in Education or broadly human-centred AI), Educational Technology or related disciplines , you will also have knowledge of techniques and methods for designing and learning environments and co-designing with children as well as other stakeholders.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.

It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.

This post is expected to start as soon as possible with a 12 month contract and the possibility of extension.

The post is full time but flexible arrangements (including job share with another candidate) may be considered.
