The role

You will be joining the large, diverse and dynamic Design and Manufacturing Futures Lab (http://www.dmf-lab.co.uk) in one of the UK’s top engineering faculties working on rEUman (https://www.reuman.eu/) - a cutting-edge European research project funded by the European Union, dedicated to digitally-enhanced multi-level solutions for smart human-centric remanufacturing with the mission of revolutionizing the remanufacturing industry through advanced technology and sustainable practices. The project has work streams working at both factory and value chain levels. The University of Bristol’s role in the project involves the connection of these two levels, modelling how factory and policy interventions can maximise remanufacturing value streams.

As a Research Associate on this project, you will be working closely with the Bristol team (Dr Goudswaard, Professors Hicks and Nassehi) as well as coordinating work as required with the 20+ project partners spanning industry and academia.

What will you be doing?

UoB’s core contributions to the project are towards Circular value-chain creation, developing digital solutions and enabling business intelligence. You will lead delivery on a task of circular business dynamics modelling and remanufacturing strategy design, and support delivery of four other tasks led by other consortium partners.

Due to the collaborative nature of the project, there is an expectation that the role holder will be willing to travel domestically and internationally for project meetings and for dissemination at conferences and industry events.

As this role is a Pathway 2 (Research) role, there are no formally specified teaching duties required of the role-holder. However, other commitments permitting, the role-holder may be given development opportunities to undertake activities such as teaching on Masters and Doctoral programmes and/ or supervising MSc dissertations within the School as appropriate.

You should apply if

You should apply if you have expertise in Production System Modelling and programming with tools like Anylogic. You have a deep understanding of manufacturing systems, supply chains, and design space optimisation. You hold (or are completing) a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a strong publication record. You’re a proactive team player with excellent communication skills, and you thrive in interdisciplinary projects. If you bring leadership potential, project management experience, or knowledge of re-manufacturing, international collaborations, and industry partnerships, we’d love to hear from you.
