This hybrid full time post is available immediately on a fixed term contract.
We are recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Geography and Environmental Science (which is within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences).
This role will be working across two projects which have a focus on the climate and carbon. Working within the Convex Seascape Survey project, the Research Fellow will be studying, quantifying and evaluating the environmental impacts of marine scientific research from ship, lab and desk activities. This will involve analysing categorical and numerical data to identify recommendations on how to reduce these impacts, with a particular focus on carbon emissions, and we have a large dataset ready for this analysis. Working within the European Space Agency (ESA) project ‘Marine-Atmosphere eXtreme Satellite Synergy (MAXSS)’ the Research Fellow will be quantifying how hurricanes, tropical cyclones and polar lows influence and change the global ocean carbon sink. Again, here we have a large dataset that is ready to be exploited by the successful candidate.
The research will involve the design of experiments, the exploitation of some existing dataset along with the generation of new data, and the development and use of scientific Python programming.
