About us
The Division of Biosciences at UCL is one of the world's foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences. We have an outstanding international reputation and a community of over 500 staff and more than 300 PhD students engaged in cutting edge research and collaboration.
You would join the Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology (NPP), which is one of four departments within the Division. The Department is internationally renowned for its fundamental research that builds on a history including Nobel laureates James Black, AV Hill, and Bernard Katz. Modern faculty are undertaking research that incorporates state-of-the-art cellular, molecular and systems-based approaches of neurotransmitter receptors and ion channels, animal and brain physiology, neural networks, and associated signalling pathways. Teaching activities within the department include hosting leading undergraduate degrees in Neuroscience, and in Pharmacology.
About the role
The main purpose of this position is to conduct outstanding research and teaching within the fields of pharmacology, neuroscience, and/or physiology. We are particularly interested in applications from outstanding researchers in new therapeutic modalities such as targeted protein degraders, protein-protein interaction disruptors, therapeutic antibodies, or de novo protein design. Applicants with expertise at the cellular and molecular levels or in research areas that fall within our strategic priorities of engineering biology and artificial intelligence are also particularly encouraged. We anticipate that the new recruit may also become an active member of the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB), which fosters research at the molecular level. They may also benefit from core facilities available at UCL for biophysics (ISMB Biophysics Centre), high-throughput screening (High Content Biology Lab), and mass spectrometry (UCL MS Science Technology Platform).
Teaching undergraduates and postgraduates in the fields of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology is an essential part of the post.
