About the role

This is an exciting time to join the Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service (SC&MHAS) at Imperial College! We have been investing heavily in our Service to better support our students through university life. We have grown from a small team to a diverse and multifaceted group of over thirty professionals striving to deliver the best experience possible for our students.

The Senior Study Mentor (Mental Health) is new key role within SC&MHAS, with responsibility for the day-to-day work of the Study Mentors (Mental Health) Team.  You will line manage the existing team of study mentors, and lead the development of the study mentoring provision within SC&MHAS.

You will join a strong team of senior clinicians at the service: three Senior Student Counsellors, a Senior Mental Health Advisor, and a Senior Mental Health Intervention Officer and build upon close relationships with the Disability Advice Service.

What you would be doing

  • Line management supervision of Student Study Mentors including supporting their development. 
  • Managing and monitoring the clinical workflow of the service as well as evaluating and improving service delivery to ensure it is responsive, ethical and efficient
  • Offering effective study mentoring to individual students
  • Providing and developing workshops and training on topics related to mental health, disability and neurodivergence
  • Containing and managing risk and safeguarding issues as necessary, including escalation, and covering duty as necessary.

  • An appropriately qualified, registered and experience Mental Health professional with line management experience
  • A commitment to and belief in supporting the mental health of students so they can be successful at university
  • A flexible and collaborative clinician with a commitment both to high-quality provision and staff well-being
  • Ability to manage and contain risk and to support those working with clients in crisis

Further information

Due to the nature of the role the majority of annual leave will need to be taken outside of term-time.

You may be required to work one evening a week to support late opening at the service.
