About the role
The Department of Computing is looking to appoint a Communications Officer. This role has been created to fill a need in the Department to support and enhance the wide-ranging research activities in the Department. The post-holder will devote considerable time to the management, development and maintenance of the departmental website and new digital media, with the prime purpose of proactively promoting and communicating news and information about Computing research.
What you would be doing
You will take a lead role in coordinating and managing events designed to promote the Department and its research activity to key internal and external stakeholders. You will take sole responsibility for publicising the Department’s research achievements effectively, both in printed and electronic modes. You will also assume primary responsibility for the co-ordination and staging of a variety of high-profile research events and seminars, as and when required. You will have sole responsibility for the development and maintenance of the departmental website and intranet, keeping content up-to-date, by liaising with academic and support staff colleagues, and research focus group leaders.
What we are looking for
This is a busy and varied post requiring an enthusiastic and highly competent person able to multi-task and to work to deadlines. You will be innovative and dynamic and must be proactive in your approach to duties, as well as being able to work with minimum supervision. The post involves a high level of interaction with staff of all levels as well as students, and you must combine a professional approach with a friendly and welcoming manner.
