About the role:
We are looking for a Research Associate or Research Assistant to join a research programme studying how the immune system responds to changes in lipid metabolism. Our lab focuses on understanding the biology of inflammasomes - proteins that regulate processes during infection and inflammation. You will work on exciting projects exploring how lipids in cells can switch these immune responses on or off. The role offers the chance to develop your skills in a world-class research environment using state-of-the-art tools and techniques.
You will be based in the Department of Infectious Disease at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus, working in a supportive research lab. Your role will involve hands-on lab work using a range of techniques in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Some previous experience in a similar lab setting would be helpful, but training will be provided. This is a great opportunity to build practical skills and address important scientific questions about how the immune system works.
What you would be doing:
You will investigate how changes in lipid metabolism influence immune responses, with a particular focus on the activation and regulation of inflammasomes. Your day-to-day work will involve designing and performing experiments using a range of techniques including Western blotting, ELISA, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry. You’ll work closely with other members of the lab to analyse data, interpret results, and contribute to ongoing publications. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate lab records and ensuring that experiments are carried out to a high standard. This role offers a valuable opportunity to deepen your experience in immunology and cell biology while playing an active role in advancing our understanding of immune regulation in health and disease.
What we are looking for:
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £43,003 - £46,297 per annum
