Location: Oxford
Salary: £17,023 to £18,308 /year
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 16th June 2025

From September 2025 (Fixed-term, up to two years)

Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) invites applications for a fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Neuroscience, offered from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027. The post is to provide teaching cover during the Leverhulme-funded research leave of Professor Ana Domingos, Tutorial Fellow in Neuroscience. There may also be the option to appoint two part-time lecturers instead, and applicants are encouraged to indicate their availability for a 3-hour and/or 6-hour post.

This is a teaching-focused post, ideally suited to early-career academics seeking tutorial teaching experience within Oxford’s collegiate system. The successful candidate(s) will contribute to undergraduate teaching in Neuroscience for students reading Medicine (BM) and Biomedical Sciences (BMS), delivering an average of six hours of tutorials per week during term time.

Teaching responsibilities will include topics such as the basal ganglia and cortex, neurophysiological principles of vision, audition and sensorimotor processing, and behavioural neuroscience. The Lecturer will oversee the first-year Brain thread for BMS students and support second-year tutorial provision. In addition to teaching, duties include academic support and guidance, acting as a Personal Tutor, setting and marking collections (termly College exams), writing tutorial reports, and assisting with student admissions in December 2025.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated and friendly teaching team and work closely with other Fellows, tutors, and the Senior Tutor. They will also be encouraged to participate in wider College life, including access and outreach work, recruitment events such as Open Days, and social activities with students.

LMH admits around nine students per year across the BM and BMS programmes, with strong emphasis on access and inclusive academic excellence. The College fosters a close-knit academic community and supports over 700 students and more than 200 academic and support staff. LMH is the only Oxbridge college to hold the Gold Award from Investors in People and provides excellent resources for both students and tutors, including a well-stocked 24-hour library and outstanding Wellbeing and Study Skills support.

The salary will be £17,023–£18,308 per annum (2024/25 rates) for a 6-hour post, pro rata for part-time. The post is pensionable under the USS scheme. Additional benefits include Common Table meals (weekday lunch and one dinner per week in term), research allowance (£366 p.a.), and membership of the Senior Common Room.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field, demonstrate excellent tutorial teaching ability, and show commitment to supporting high-achieving undergraduates. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.

To apply, please visit our careers website. Applications must be submitted via the online system by noon on Friday 18 July 2025. Interviews are expected to take place during the week beginning Monday 11 August 2025.
