Job description:
If you are passionate about urban green infrastructure, flood risk mitigation or urban heat island mitigation, we would love to hear from you. This post is a unique opportunity to tackle all three in the same project.
The project
You will lead on the establishment of controlled, instrumented, external test beds to deliver a high resolution data set to characterise temporal variations in microclimatic variables, soil moisture and ET. The work will be hosted by the School of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the School of Biosciences. You will work closely with the Project Lead, Professor Virginia Stovin, alongside our collaborators in Biosciences: Dr Holly Croft and a second PDRA. We expect you will be able to imprint your own ideas and direction on the project within months. We will support you to raise your research profile and to progress your career goals, whether in academia or in industry.
You
We are looking for a well-organised and creative scientist/engineer to join us on this adventure. The ideal candidate will have a PhD (or be about to submit their thesis) or have equivalent experience in science and engineering, with a strong experimentation and data analysis component. A background in quantitative engineering hydrology or urban micro-climates is essential.
You will have excellent data analysis, scientific programming, and communication skills and be able to plan and organise your time effectively. You will be based in Sheffield, with occasional travel to visit academic and industrial collaborators in the UK and abroad. You will also be supported and encouraged to present project outputs at national and international conferences.
The University of Sheffield. We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
