Associate Tutor in Management Studies

Birkbeck, University of London - Birkbeck Business School

Location: London
Salary: £59.91 per hour
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 23rd June 2025

Job Ref: 589825

Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Tutor to join Birkbeck's Business School and support the team this coming academic year 2025/26.

As Associate Tutor you would support the modules:

This post offers the opportunity to contribute to an engaging undergraduate module at Birkbeck Business School. Management Studies I and II are compulsory first-year modules for students enrolled on our undergraduate business and management degree programmes, and are also available as options for students on related pathways.

The modules provide a broad introduction to the field of business and management, offering students foundational knowledge of key concepts, functions, and debates that underpin contemporary management practice.

Topics include: the nature and purpose of organisations; fundamental principles of management; key business functions such as marketing, finance, and operations; business environments and external influences; and ethical and social dimensions of management. The content draws upon academic literature and real-world examples to support critical engagement and practical understanding.

The modules are delivered through a combination of pre-recorded lectures, curated reading lists made available online, and weekly in-person classes. The pre-recorded lectures and reading materials are already in place; while there is scope to revise and enrich them, this is not a requirement.

As Associate Tutor, you will:

  • Lead the weekly in-person sessions, which are designed to be interactive rather than lecture-based, incorporating case studies, group activities, and guided discussions.
  • Be involved in the marking of assignments.
  • Have a sound knowledge of the business and management discipline, and a commitment to student learning and academic development.
  • Have a track record of student engagement and want to contribute to an impactful and transformational educational experience.
  • Have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate, and the ability to support teaching.

The Module Convenor will oversee the modules and provide you with ongoing support.

This is your chance to be part of a dynamic School at Birkbeck, situated in the heart of London's historic Bloomsbury area, so apply with us today.

Contract

Fixed-term, part-time contract 2025-2026. Please submit an application form for consideration. Closing date: Sunday 6 July 2025. Interview date: Monday 14 July 2025.

Remuneration

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £59.91 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked.

This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at  2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
