The opportunity
Do you enjoy supporting others in learning technical skills and bringing creative ideas to life? Are you looking to transition your industry experience into a more student-facing, education-focused role? University of the Arts London, School of Pre-Degree Studies is seeking experts in Stitch and Realisation techniques to join our team as a Specialist Technician.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting a diverse range of home and overseas students learning across pre-degree programmes, providing expert instruction in stitch and realisation techniques, and helping students bring their creative ideas to life.
Working closely with course directors and curriculum leaders, academic staff, and fellow technicians, you will deliver specialist technical guidance and teaching to students through demonstrations, coaching sessions, and one-to-one support. You will contribute to feedback and insights into student projects, helping to refine their creative process and develop practical proficiency in stitch and realisation processes. You’ll also take responsibility for maintaining a safe and inspiring technical environment. This includes supporting Health & Safety compliance, equipment maintenance, stock control, and contributing to exhibitions and events.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong practical skills, a flair for creative problem-solving, and a desire to support the next generation of fashion and textile designers.
Please indicate in your application if you have a specific role preference.
About You
You will need a relevant qualification (BA level in Art, Design or Performance) or equivalent industry experience that demonstrates the required level of technical knowledge.
You will also have proven experience in specialist stitch techniques and realisation processes.
A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and its application in a technical learning environment is also essential.
An Enhanced DBS check is also required for this role.
