The Case Management team are responsible for the management of formal employee relations cases in one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the UK.

The Role:

As the Investigator within HR at Cambridge University you will be responsible for undertaking complex investigations into staff misconduct and staff complaints. This will include developing investigation plans, communicating with and interviewing relevant parties, gathering evidence, reaching findings of fact and producing balanced investigation reports that assess the credibility of evidence and suggest if on the balance of probabilities there is a case to answer.  You will also attend hearings, where required, to present the investigation findings.

You will build effective relationships with stakeholders across the University and provide support to internally trained investigators and the wider HR team.

We work from the office a minimum of two days a week, but some weeks this will be higher due to when investigation meetings and hearings are scheduled: these are held in person. The office location will vary within Cambridge offices depending on the case being supported.

About you:

In order to succeed in this role, you will join us with:

  • Proven experience of conducting sensitive and complex investigations, including investigations of alleged conduct that could constitute an alleged criminal offence or serious sexual misconduct;
  • Experience of presenting reports to senior decision makers;
  • Understanding of relevant legislation including matters related to employment law, confidentiality, data sharing and discrimination;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that can be adapted to a wide range of audiences;
  • Ability to distil and present complex and nuanced information;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with others;
  • Interviewing skills, including self-awareness about own possible biases;
  • Ability to manage conflicting and changing priorities;
  • Degree level qualification/level 6 vocational qualification or equivalent experience.
