About the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join an exciting international research project focused on advancing battery technology for tropical environments. This collaborative project aims to enhance the performance, safety, and durability of lithium-ion batteries under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions.

What you would be doing:

  • Investigate the long-term electrochemical and thermal ageing mechanisms, heat generation, and safety concerns of batteries in hot climates.
  • Used and parameterise physics-based ageing models for batteries in PyBaMM
  • To simulate battery degradation and thermal behaviour in PyBaMM
  • Participate in materials research and prototype development, including lab-scale and field-scale of battery testing and design optimisation
  • Contribute a report and publications based on the project to improve battery lifespan, stability, and operational safety.

What we are looking for:

  • You must have a master’s degree in an area pertinent to the research subject, (i.e. battery multiscale modelling, or thermal engineering) to be considered at the Research Assistant level. Individuals with a PhD will be considered for Research Associate.
  • Practical experience in battery engineering and battery multiscale modelling is essential.
  • You must have experience in battery degradation analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python and interest in working with PyBaMM or similar modelling tools is essential.
