Location: Liverpool
Salary: £39,355 to £45,413 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 27th June 2025
Closes: 24th July 2025
Job Ref: 095533

We are seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on a project – An epigenetic switch: how to make a parasite – jointly led by Mark Viney (Liverpool) and Peter Sarkies (Oxford). This project is funded by a Wellcome Trust Discovery Award that will run until 2032, and supports research teams in both Liverpool and Oxford. The overall aim of this work is to study the role of epigenetic pathways, specifically chromatin and small non-coding RNAs, in regulating gene expression in the parasitic nematode Strongyloides. In this role you will use Strongyloides epigenetic profiling data to formulate and test hypotheses about how epigenetic factors control the life cycle of parasitic nematode, use transgenic and CRISPR methods to manipulate epigenetic regulators, and test the effects these manipulations have on gene expression. This full-time role would be ideal for someone with a strong background in molecular biology in either model organisms or parasites and an interest in epigenetics. Experience with CRISPR gene editing, microinjection and/or animal work would also be an advantage.

Preferred start date October 2025 - the post is available until September 2029.

You should have a PhD or equivalent research degree in the Biological or Life Sciences.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.

This role is eligible for sponsorship under the skilled worker route.
