This new full – time post is available from 01/09/2025 on a permanent term basis and offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

The role of Business Development Manager (Advanced Materials or related area) sits within the Business Development team which faces a range of thematic and business areas and is headed up by the Assistant Director, Sectors and Corporate Partners. In particular this role will sit within the Advanced Manufacturing sector.  

The role leads on the development of collaborations with industry, organisations and government partners within a theme and/or business sector.

The post holder will support the Sector Head to deliver opportunities for partnership development and impact in line with Exeter Innovation’s Business Engagement Strategy and the University’s Strategy 2030.

The successful candidate will:

  • have a demonstrable track record in business development and income generation, dealing with multiple partners and significant budgets
  • be able to demonstrate proactive problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • have management experience in a Higher Education or an industry context.
  • have the ability to manage and motivate a multi-disciplinary team
  • have experience of developing and maintaining high quality reciprocal relationships with external organisations or stakeholders
  • have a good understanding of government funding bodies that support innovation and knowledge exchange, including awareness of funding regulations, strategy and delivery
  • be willing to travel and to work additional hours when required to meet deadlines. International travel may be required.
