The Estates Department is looking for a Head of Maintenance to manage the maintenance activity at the University, providing support to the Assistant Director of Campus Services on all matters relating to statutory, planned, preventative, corrective and reactive maintenance.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Head of Maintenance will be the University’s expert on maintenance ensuring that the maintenance activity enhances the campus experience. Providing strategic advice on the Universities maintenance strategy and ensuring contracts are in place to support the University estate.
The Head of Maintenance will manage the maintenance team to ensure that an effective maintenance service is in place to support the activity of key stakeholders, ensuring that there are effective KPIs in place to manage maintenance activity in support of the senior management team.
The Head of Maintenance will ensure that the University remains 100% Statutorily compliant and drives performance with appropriate contract management of the Universities contractors.
The Head of Maintenance will ensure that an effective strategic maintenance plan is developed and remains in place, delivering timely capital investment in the Universities estate to ensure that a first-class campus experience is delivered at all times.
Skill and experience required
You will be degree qualified and hold a relevant professional qualification and have a good knowledge and experience of delivering the maintenance requirements of a diverse and large estate.
You will have a good understanding of the legislative requirements that apply to maintaining a diverse estate and will have had previous experience of managing asbestos and Legionella control and poses a sound understanding of Health and Safety.
Demonstrable experience of contract management and driving contractual performance will be required, along with previous experience of delivering programmes of minor capital investment works.
You will require demonstrable experience of managing annually large revenue and capital budgets, ensuring budgets are set and managed to deliver the maintenance service.
Previous demonstrable experience of assessing an estate to formulate and deliver a long-term maintenance plan will be required.
You are required to write reports and business cases, at all levels, in support of the maintenance activity and it is essential that you are able to influence individuals and groups, be able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing through excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
You will have previously managed a maintenance team and be experienced in managing both in-house staff and collaboratively working with the contracted supply chain.
