The role

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the University of Bristol’s Electrical Energy Management Group (EEMG) as part of a major EPSRC-funded initiative on Sustainable Electrification. You will contribute to the design and control of high-performance integrated electrical machines and power converters, supporting the transition to low-carbon transport and energy systems. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with leading academic and industrial partners in a multi-disciplinary environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing control strategies for electric machines and drives using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Supporting hardware-in-the-loop testing and real-time simulations (e.g. using Speedgoat).
  • Contributing to the electromagnetic and thermal design of machines using FEA tools.
  • Engaging with collaborators and disseminating research findings.

You should apply if

  • You have a PhD (or are close to completion) in Electrical Engineering or a relevant field, OR have equivalent industrial experience.
  • You have experience in electric machine control, power electronics, and system modelling.
  • You can demonstrate skills in simulation (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink) and machine design tools (e.g. MotorCAD, ANSYS Maxwell).
  • You are motivated to work collaboratively in an applied research environment.

Salary: Grade I £38,249 - £44,128 per annum; Grade J £42,882 - £48,149 per annum

The grade of the role offered will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience you bring to the position.
