The Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory
We are a flagship Institute within the University of West London (UWL), delivering interdisciplinary applied research and education. We focus on delivering evidence to inform high quality, cutting-edge, health and social care to benefit people living with dementia, older people, their care partners and families.
Our mission is ensuring the most vulnerable older populations have better experiences of health and social care and are supported in living well and at home for longer. All our research and education programmes are guided by an inclusive approach.
The institute is now established with 17 interdisciplinary ECR, mid-career and senior research staff; 14 of these posts are directly supported by NIHR, ESRC and NIH funding. We have a track record of obtaining NIHR funding, with 13 active (12 UKRI contracts) research contracts.

The Person
We are seeking a individual with the capability to apply and further develop their leadership skills in support of the Institute’s continued growth. Key responsibilities will be to implement the operational infrastructure necessary to support our strategic objectives; support our Principal Investigators by ensuring the highest standards of research rigour; oversee the timely and cost-effective delivery of research contracts; contribute to impactful dissemination and engagement activities; enable and build research capacity to strengthen our pipeline of research income; sustain our commitment to involving people with lived experience and communities in shaping our research priorities, governance, and delivery. Experience of the Research Excellence Framework (REF), would be highly advantageous.
We need someone to lead, inspire, and further develop our growing, interdisciplinary team of academics and practitioners, supporting individual capacity-building, while ensuring the team has the stability and infrastructure needed to thrive and respond to emerging opportunities.
This person needs to be driven by a commitment to excellence, have exceptional negotiation and communication skills, and a proven track recording in building effective, collaborative relationships across academic disciplines and with professional university services. Externally, they will cultivate meaningful partnerships with diverse communities, health and social care, and networks across NW London, nationally, and internationally, to support the institutes continued growth and impact.
This successful candidate will be supported to sustain their individual research programme, and engagement in education.
