We are now seeking to appoint a Student Health and Wellbeing Officer who will be responsible for providing information, advice, guidance, and support to students across range of health and wellness topics. The Officer will help create a community in which students are comfortable to disclose personal challenges and supported to achieve their full potential.
Mental health is a key area, and you will be responsible for providing direct support to students who benefit from it, and will liaise regularly with our external counsellors. You will also lead on awareness-raising events (such as Mental Health Awareness Week) and support us in establishing a ‘whole-University’ approach to mental health. You will also work closely with our Student Affairs Coordinator to support students with disabilities, and will be expected to signpost students to relevant local health services when needed. Due to the nature of this role, you must be comfortable working with some students in distressing or upsetting circumstances; this may include some out-of-hours work.
It is essential that the post-holder has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse communities of students and external partners. They must demonstrate strong time management and the ability to work in a dynamic work environment. The role further requires sensitivity, honesty, integrity, and an understanding of the challenges to wellbeing amongst students.
Prior understanding of the barriers to accessing support (especially in different segments of student communities) is desirable. Experience of public speaking, event management, and/or working with international students will also be beneficial.
