Reporting to the Head of PMO & Programmes, you will be responsible for working alongside Infrastructure, IT and Business Managers to allocate and plan resources for IT projects. Managing a range of cross-institutional projects, you will have considerable project management experience and work to agreed Project Management standards with excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills. Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Understand the business issues and challenges of both the University and wider Higher Education sector in relation to the implementation of cross-institutional projects.
  • Provide guidance and support to senior sponsors, programme and project management and team members.
  • Facilitate institutional change with effective communication plans applicable to all levels of the University.
  • Be the prime contact for project planning related issues and accountable for the accuracy and timeliness of the project plans.
  • Effectively apply aspects of APM, Prince 2 or PMP or appropriate project management methodologies and enforce project standards.
  • Adhere to and support the development of Project Management Office (PMO) standards.
  • Proactively work to ensure that activity follows the wider Project Management framework.
  • Provide leadership to the project team and serve as a role model.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change.
  • Mitigate any team conflict and communication issues.
  • Ensure the project team are well informed of changes and communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
  • In collaboration with Project Sponsors and Project Boards, establish goals and objectives, implementation plans and timescales, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects on time and to budget.
  • Manage operational aspects of projects, priorities and scope on a day-to-day basis, providing actuals and revised forecasts at least once per month.
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project.
  • Provide Programme Reports to Project Boards with effective guidance on progress, milestones and quality assurance.
  • Produce regular and ad hoc reports.
  • Coordinate stakeholder groups and facilitate core project team meetings.
  • Minimise and manage project exposure to risks and issues.
  • Lead proposal efforts, including completing project scoping and feasibility assessments.
  • Facilitate team and client meetings effectively.
  • Deliver engaging, informative and well-organised presentations.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as required.

The post is available from 1st September 2025 until 31st August 2027.

This post may be considered as a secondment opportunity with the agreement of your line manager.
