As WaterBear continues to grow, we’re looking for a passionate and empathetic Student Support Officer (Wellbeing) to join our team in Sheffield. This role is pivotal in ensuring our students—whether on-campus or online—feel supported, empowered, and heard.

Your Role

You’ll be a key member of our Student Services team, delivering frontline pastoral and wellbeing support. From one-to-one sessions to proactive mental health campaigns, your work will make a real difference in the lives of our students.

Start Date: 1st September 2025
Reports to: Student Services Manager

 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential, empathetic 1:1 support for student wellbeing concerns
  • Triage student needs and escalate urgent cases appropriately
  • Deliver wellbeing workshops and mental health awareness campaigns
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL)
  • Maintain accurate records and support safeguarding procedures
  • Collaborate with academic and support teams to ensure a joined-up student experience
  • Contribute to the development of wellbeing initiatives and policy 

About You

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in student support or wellbeing
  • Compassionate, approachable and confident in safeguarding practices
  • Skilled in record-keeping and familiar with UK support networks
  • A proactive communicator and collaborative team player
  • Passionate about student mental health and inclusion

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification in counselling, psychology, mental health, or youth work
  • Mental Health First Aid or trauma-informed care training
  • Experience working in the creative arts or music education sector
  • Knowledge of external support networks and referral pathways in the UK.
