About the role
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will support the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in delivery of research activity on the “Building local capacity to improve the protection and management of the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park” project funded by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. You will be responsible for conducting research specific to the “Identifying threats to the persistence of forest cover in the BJCM” project component and you will also provide training in Remote Sensing (multispectral image acquisition, rectification, classification and change detection) to local stakeholders.
The role is fixed term for 12 months.

This Research Project is being delivered within the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences.We are ranked 2nd in the UK for research power in Geography and Environmental Studies, with over 90% of our research outputs, and 100% of our research impact rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (UK Research Excellence Framework, 2021). About you
Applicants should hold a higher education qualification in Environmental Sciences, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS) or other related fields and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge in Remote Sensing, GIS, landcover change assessment, causes of landcover change and forest transition model/theory. A PhD in a related subject and knowledge of Jamaica’s protected area system and their management is desirable.
