De Montfort University (DMU) is a forward-thinking institution driven by innovation, inclusion, and a deep commitment to delivering outstanding digital services. Since the launch of our Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022, we’ve implemented major infrastructure upgrades, embedded user-centred design practices, and laid the foundations for a modern, agile university. This transformation is ongoing, and with so much still to achieve, it’s a particularly exciting time to join us. At DMU, you’ll contribute to meaningful, lasting change that supports staff and students alike, all within a vibrant and ambitious university community.
Faculty / Directorate
The Digital and Technology Directorate plays a central role in reshaping how the university delivers digital value. We are modernising our services through cloud adoption, reduction of technical debt, and the implementation of a product operating model—still novel in higher education but increasingly vital to public sector innovation. Our approach combines agile delivery with operational excellence, ensuring services are both resilient and user-focused. From AI and automation to infrastructure, identity, and cyber security, the Directorate is focused on creating streamlined, future-ready services that support academic and professional excellence across DMU.
Role
We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to take on the role of Head of Platforms and Connectivity, a key post within the Digital and Technology Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to lead one of the most business-critical infrastructure functions at DMU, overseeing our core network and platform services in support of a truly connected and digitally ambitious university.
You will lead the strategic planning, operation, and continuous improvement of services ranging from hybrid cloud infrastructure and on-premise platforms to wired and wireless networks, datacentre resilience, and SMART campus integrations. Your remit includes network architecture, campus connectivity, IoT integration, and the underlying platforms that support digital learning, research, and operations. As a senior leader, you will manage multidisciplinary teams and engage with internal and external stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing services that align with institutional goals.
Working closely with the Cloud Infrastructure Architect and the wider Digital and Technology teams, you will collaborate on the design, delivery, and operation of our technology platforms and network infrastructure. This will include driving innovation through automation, intelligent monitoring, and performance data to ensure services remain modern, resilient, and aligned with evolving university needs.
Ideal Candidate
You will bring extensive experience leading enterprise IT infrastructure functions, including both network and platform services across complex, multi-site environments. You’ll have a strong track record in cloud platform management, network security, virtualisation, and hybrid cloud architecture, alongside a deep understanding of emerging technologies that support campus connectivity and digital transformation.
You should be an inspiring leader with the ability to build high-performing, multidisciplinary teams. Your approach will combine strategic thinking with operational delivery, supported by excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable plans. Experience with network design (LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, VPNs), datacentre infrastructure, and SMART campus technologies is essential. A background in higher education or large public sector environments is desirable.
