The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry.  The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

The Experiment Support Officer will support the human neurophysiology (EEG and MEG) and brain stimulation research in the Oxford University Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging (OxCIN).  

About the Role

The post is funded to 30 November 2027 and is primarily based in the Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity (OHBA)  in Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital but will also support labs in other OxCIN  buildings, including the FMRIB at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Due to the nature of the post, work is principally in person across the centre’s sites during core working hours. Occasional remote working may be possible if operational requirements allow. Work outside normal hours and at weekends may be required occasionally.

Working as part of the Experiment Support Team, you will independently manage the EEG and MEG laboratories. This includes looking after the consumables, cleanliness, working order, preparation and experimental set up of the equipment.  You will be the first point of contact for new users of the electrophysiology and brain stimulation equipment and will train experimenters in electrophysiology lab procedures and protocols.   You will support planning and approval for projects at FMRIB and OHBA.  You will ensure that all studies are carried out according to good clinical practice (GCP) and ethical requirements, and that data collection documentation is in order.

About You

You will have a degree in biomedical sciences, physical sciences, psychology or related discipline along with experience with acquisition and analysis of functional brain imaging (preferably MEG or EEG) data.  With an interest of scientific research into brain science and technologies, you will hve an excellent working knowledge of computers and databases. Knowledge of or the ability learn  learn Matlab/Python would be desirable as would familiarity with different operating systems, including Unix/Linux.
