Research and Engagement Facilitator - AR3169

University of St Andrews - School of Geography and Sustainable Development

Location: St Andrews
Salary: £38,249 to £45,413 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 29th July 2025
Closes: 1st September 2025
Job Ref: 454907

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Research and Engagement Facilitator in the St Andrews Centre for Critical Sustainabilities (StACCS), established in January 2024 as a cross-university Global Research Centre based in the School of Geography & Sustainable Development (SGSD) at the University of St Andrews.  The post holder will play a core and creative role in designing and facilitating research events, co-developing funding applications and supporting grants and projects, nurturing our growing networks, and driving our outreach and engagement activities. The post holder will be expected to work with a high degree of independence, to both provide leadership and ensure the smooth administration of day-to-day operations, projects, and events of StACCS.

The successful candidate will have excellent networking and communication skills, experience in project and event design and management, have a background in sustainability-related projects, and take a proactive approach towards contributing to the success of StACCS. They will be responsible for many of the day-to-day tasks of running the Centre (supported by the SGSD administrative team) but a key priority for the role holder will be engagement within and beyond the University across a wide range of different audiences.

StACCS is a new and exciting University of St Andrews initiative which draws together a range of enthusiastic colleagues across the School and University with backgrounds in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Together, and with our partners, we are working to shape debates around sustainability beyond ‘just’ the environment and technology, to include social, political, and cultural dimensions. Our ethos is to support a diversity of knowledge and experience of sustainability, and this is also how we operate as a research centre (for instance, current projects include ‘Rewrite the Future’ a Summer exhibition at the Wardlaw Museum involving approximately 30 colleagues from Classics to Computer Science, and a Spring School for Early Career Researchers on ‘Careful Critical Sustainability Research’ with the University of Bonn). We have family-friendly hours for core meetings and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for staff.

Please see University website for full employee benefits.

Further information and informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Ian Lawson, email: itl2@st-andrews.ac.uk or Dr Louise Reid, email: lar9@st-andrews.ac.uk. If you would like an opportunity to speak informally with a member of Staff regarding working and living in St Andrews, this can be arranged. Please contact the Head of School (gsdhos@st-andrews.ac.uk)

Applications are particularly welcome from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in academic posts at the University.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience.  We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
