We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart.
Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on an exciting project assessing large mammal interactions in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda.
You will join a vibrant group of researchers evaluating whether inducible defenses in response to human predation pressure structure spatial food web dynamics. Existing data streams include camera traps, GPS telemetry, and animal behaviour observations.
You will fit models to quantify the nature and strength of large mammal (primarily lion, spotted hyena, and Uganda kob) in relation to top-down pressure from human subsistence poaching via wire snare. In addition to the modelling work, you will also conduct field work at the site in Uganda.
You should have a PhD in hand, be proficient in modelling of camera trap (i.e. occupancy estimation), GPS telemetry (i.e. animal movement models), and animal behaviour data. You will also be able to demonstrate clear leadership positions in wildlife field research sites, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
