Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our offices between Christmas and New Year

MAIN DUTIES

As a Senior Technical Officer in Aerospace Engineering, you will be responsible for the preparation of materials and equipment for practical, commercial and short course classes as required in one or more areas of the school. This mainly involves support for specialist techniques in Aerospace area for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and occasional support in other areas within the school.

You will help and assist in developing and testing of aerodynamic models using various design & manufacturing equipment and carry out relevant tests in the wind tunnel.

You will help in flight simulation labs using various simulators to help pilot studies students.

Providing specialist and general assistance to students to enable them to carry out their work.

Instigating the ordering and maintenance of stock levels and minor equipment as required for practical sessions in consultation with the Programme and Module Leaders and other academic staff.

Assisting with the general management and housekeeping of the laboratories and workshops, to ensure that they are maintained in a safe condition and that there are suitable levels of consumable items.

Having a thorough knowledge of the relevant health and safety procedures applicable to laboratory and workshops. Ensuring that these procedures are adhered to by all users. Complying with all Health and Safety regulations, both national and local rules.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience of working in a laboratory/workshop environment is essential.

You must be able to work to a high standard of accuracy, neatness and safe practice including good time management. You will possess the ability to identify design issues and offer solutions to improve functionality and manufacturability of products, and understand of the importance of Health and Safety processes and ability to produce activity-based Risk Assessments.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. In addition, you will have a good understanding of customer care and the ability to put this in to practice. You will have a positive “can do” attitude, be flexible and adaptable in approach and you’ll be motivated and able to learn new skills. You must be a good team player with a strong ethos of cooperation and supporting others, alongside the ability to create good working relationships. You will need to demonstrate strong attention to detail and good organisational and interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of A Levels (or equivalent qualifications), or proven experience.

Degree or HNC/HND or equivalent is advantageous.
