About the role

We’re seeking an ambitious, motivated, and hard-working Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr Antoni Wrobel’s lab at the Department of Biochemistry. You will be working on a project that will study the functional importance and prevalence of filamentation among transcription factors at the structural level. The project has a potential to uncover new mechanisms governing the fundamental biological process of gene expression. The planned research, funded by an HFSP Research Grant, is a close collaboration between the Wrobel Lab at the University of Oxford and the Suskiewicz Lab at the Centre for Molecular Biophysics, CNRS in Orleans, France. As such, the successful candidate will be expected to spend the initial phase of the project (approximately 3–6 months) based at the CMB in France, before continuing the remainder of the role in Oxford.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded for up to 3 years in the first instance. The postholder will remain employed and paid by the University of Oxford throughout, and no employment relationship will be established with the French institution.

The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

About you

Applicants will hold a PhD/DPhil or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in a subject relative to Structural Biology, Biochemistry, or Biophysics. You should be driven, have experience in protein production and good background in structural biology and biophysics. As your project will likely use a combination of cryoEM and cryoET you will ideally have background in at least one of these methods. You also should have a deep interest in mechanisms underlying basic biological processes at the molecular level. Experience with filamentous proteins, challenging protein purification and complex protein chemistry, and helical analysis would all be a plus. Enthusiasm for working in a laboratory environment and in a close international collaboration is also expected, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
