The role

The student inclusion team at Kingston University is seeking an Access and Support Adviser (KU Cares) to manage case work and processes relating to our KU Cares programme of support for students who are estranged, care-experienced and young adult carers.

You will act as a main point of contact for KU cares students from application through to graduation and ensure they are supported, referred where needed and advocated for. This role will specifically act as the named adviser for estranged students and our sanctuary scholars, whilst working across the KU cares portfolio.

You will develop, manager and deliver a range of activities aimed at supporting the participation and achievement of KU cares students and other groups facing specific and significant barriers to educational progression.

The role is primarily based at our Penrhyn Road campus with some working from home considered, in line with current University policy and business need. Occasional work by rota on Saturdays is required to support student recruitment events (for which time off in lieu will be given).

The person

You will be educated to first degree level or have an equivalent level of professional experience. Experience of working with young people is essential, ideally you will also have experience working with either young adult carers, estranged young adults and/or those leaving care.

You will have well developed case working and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently to prioritise workload and solve problems that may arise. Experience of using software systems is essential, ideally with experience of using case management systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve objectives.

Directorate/Faculty

The Student Directorate aims to deliver a seamless, high-quality experience for all current and future students to ensure they are “sought after” through supporting their participation, attainment, and success. This in turn will create a culture of high performance that is inclusive, innovative, ambitious and enterprising.

The Student Services team provides the University’s first- and second-line services for students incorporating the Information Centre, Library and Learning Services, Specialist Course Support and Administration, Student Engagement and Student Life, Health and Wellbeing.

Services are designed to be accessible and inclusive of all students, to ensure their enquiries are resolved quickly and support is available to enable them to fully engage with and succeed in their studies.
