About the role
Governments have set climate goals but face challenges in implementing them. Creating cohesive, net-zero-aligned rules is a complex, multi-jurisdictional task. The Oxford Climate Policy Monitor, a flagship project of the Oxford Climate Policy Hub, addresses this by mapping and analysing climate rules in detail to help close the “implementation gap.”
The Monitor is an annually updated, open-access assessment of regulatory alignment with net zero across 30+ jurisdictions and six domains. Powered by a global network of pro bono law firms, it serves policymakers, researchers, advocates, and the private sector.
The Executive Director will ensure the Monitor remains a world-class resource, leading the Legal Expert Network, recruiting firms, organising stakeholder engagement, and driving collaborative projects using Monitor data. They will also develop digital and operational infrastructure, contribute to key outputs like the website and annual stocktake, engage target audiences, and identify emerging trends in law and climate policy. The role also includes supporting strategic direction and fundraising.
This is a two-year, fixed-term post (part-time considered).
About you
You will have strong leadership and management skills, capable of self-direction and coordination across a broad network. A deep understanding of the legal profession and climate policy in varied jurisdictions is essential.
You will bring enthusiasm for applying legal expertise to impactful academic work, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strategic thinking, and effective project management. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice is key. You should be equally comfortable engaging with senior policymakers and legal professionals as you are handling operational tasks.
