Applicants are invited to apply for a for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant vacancy within the Kapetanovic Group https://www.ndcn.ox.ac.uk/research/advanced-therapeutics-for-retinal-disease-kapetanovic-laband supervised by Jasmina Kapetanovic, https://www.ndcn.ox.ac.uk/team/jasmina-kapetanovic a Principal Investigator and Group Lead at the University of Oxford and Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at the Oxford Eye Hospital.

Over the past decade, Dr Kapetanovic has been at the forefront of basic science and translational medical research into novel clinical treatments for incurable retinal diseases. The main objectives of Dr Kapetanovic’s research programmes are the:
 
• Development of novel genetic and optogenetic therapies for retinal diseases.
• Investigation of innovative ocular surgical techniques including robotic eye surgery.
• Testing of novel therapies for retinal diseases in human clinical trials.
 
The postdoctoral research assistant will undertake basic science and translational research in developing new optogenetic treatments for inherited retinal diseases. We are looking for highly qualified individual (PhD/DPhil) with outstanding academic credentials, who can work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a milestone-orientated research environment. The qualification can be held (appointed to Grade 7) or submitted for examination/ nearing completion (appointed to Grade 6) by the time of starting the post. Prior experience in optogenetic gene therapy including electrophysiological functional and behavioural assays is highly desirable. A background in retinal research and previous work with in vitro and in vivo models of genetic diseases would be advantageous.

This post is full time and fixed term for 2 years in the first instance.
