We have an exciting opportunity to join our technical team and play an integral role in providing health and safety support for the School of Computing and Engineering.
The University of Huddersfield is an award-winning, successful, and modern University. The School of Computing and Engineering is part of that, and we pride ourselves on having a research-intensive learning environment. We are immensely proud of our graduates, many of whom come from our region and go on to work with top engineering, technology, and computing companies across the UK and beyond.
You will be working with academic and professional services colleagues to provide a comprehensive level of professional health and safety support to the school. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will lead on delivering expert health and safety advice in relation to the school’s computing and engineering activities. In addition, you will provide general health & safety support and advice to staff and students on a wide range of topics, with the mission of supporting a positive safety culture.
You will be a proactive, forward-thinking team player with the ability to engage collaboratively with staff/students at different levels, organise your own time effectively, and have a flexible approach as the work demands can change. It is essential that you hold a higher professional health and safety qualification (e.g., a minimum of NEBOSH Certificate but preferably NEBOSH Diploma or working towards) or equivalent. You will also have experience in interpreting and applying health and safety legislation to the workplace environment and in identifying root cause issues in a safety management system or environment.
The University is a great place to work and develop your career, and the school has a diverse community, and we strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Your continuous development is important to us, and we recognise your professional knowledge and skills. The School is committed to the Technicians' Commitment and is proud to hold a Bronze Athena Award.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.
Please make use of the supporting statement to tell us how you meet all essential criteria detailed in the Person Specification (a CV will not be sufficient for this purpose).
