Background
As part of the HR department, and reporting to the Head of HR Business Partnering, the HR Manager provides a comprehensive consultancy service to designated client groups. Ensuring people plans are aligned to the University’s strategic goals and objectives. Partnering with senior leaders, contributing to the strategic objectives of the business, acting as a trusted advisor and critical friend, able to influence and challenge the status quo as required in support of achieving effective outcomes. You will provide high quality strategic and practical advice on a range of topics including, organisational design, culture change, performance and talent management, and workforce planning. Working collaboratively with colleagues across HR, you will also support and have oversight of recruitment and retention, and accountability for resolution of complex Employee Relations issues within your client group(s).
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with your client group(s), other internal and external stakeholders, and HR colleagues, championing the HR team, and the values and behaviours of the university at all times.
Provide high quality people management advice and guidance to client group(s), ensuring resolution of complex ER issues in accordance with policies and procedures.
Support the delivery of the client group’s strategic objectives including activities arising from the Academic cycle and business objective and deliverables e.g., academic promotion, professorial banding, recruitment, organisational change and/or reward and recognition.
Person Specification
Demonstrable HR experience of working within a large, unionised, complex, and diverse organisation (HEI sector and Law School experience desirable). Exceptional stakeholder management skills, gained within a fast paced, delivery focused environment, and with an ability to navigate ambiguity Acted as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing advice and guidance to senior managers on employment law and the interpretation of policy and procedure in employee relations casework, including disciplinary and grievance case management. Experience of prioritising competing demands, working to deadlines, and developing strategies to address workload management (self and/or others).
