The University of Surrey’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences comprises five schools, working together under a ‘one health’ vision. Our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment provide the latest technologies for interdisciplinary research and teaching in human and animal health. Our mission is to sustainably improve the health and wellbeing of humans and animals, and their environments, through new knowledge and its application to the design, development, and delivery of responsible innovation and impact.

Our School of Veterinary Medicine follows an innovative distributed teaching model. It aims to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity, and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education.

The role

An exciting part-time (0.8FTE) post has arisen for an experienced veterinary surgeon with a passion for inspiring students in all aspects of veterinary medicine. This role will allow you to share your enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience with veterinary undergraduates and post-graduates. The primary focus of the role will be to support the clinical teaching across the curriculum, preparing our students for their final year rotations. The role will include small group practical teaching, alongside lectures and tutorials with associated module leadership responsibilities. There may be a requirement to travel to our offsite partners on occasion.

About you

The successful appointee must hold a veterinary degree registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS/FRCVS). Candidates will have demonstrable clinical experience and practical competencies in first opinion practice.  A teaching qualification is not essential but prior experience of teaching veterinary undergraduates would be an advantage.

Enthusiasm, adaptability and creativity are essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

What we can offer

In return we offer a generous pension, opportunities to maintain clinical skills, relocation assistance, and flexible working options including job share. There is also access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on site nursery.

Further Information

Please apply by uploading a CV and a covering letter outlining your motivation for the role and why you would be a good fit.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Rebecca Lewis (Head of Veterinary Clinical Sciences) via rebecca.lewis@surrey.ac.uk.

Induction Commitment

We wish to create the conditions for success for our new starters in the Vet School, by facilitating their growth and development within our institution. To achieve this, we have established the following guiding principle for all new staff members who are on a local/Guildford contract, effective for all new starters.  New staff are expected to be physically present on campus for 80% minimum of their working week during their initial four to six months of employment (the duration will vary depending on individual role).
