We're looking for a talented Finance/Accounts Assistant to join our team to maintain our financial records and make a valuable contribution to the smooth operation of the Department of Public Health & Primary Care. As a member of the department's Professional Services Team, you will provide essential high-level support services to help us achieve research excellence and maximize funding.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Raise and approve purchase orders, process invoices, and reconcile monthly statements from suppliers
  • Provide accounts payable and accounts receivable administration
  • Add new suppliers to the University financial system and process expense claims
  • Undertake the recharge processing for department groups for their postage charges
  • Approval of all Departmental staff expense claims through Concur
  • Approval of all Visitor and Student expense claims
  • Process payments to individuals under the University Payments System (UPS)
  • Prepare weekly payment spreadsheets to Payroll and process paying to individuals under the University Payment System
  • Act as the first point of contact for accounting enquiries
  • Respond to enquiries from across our diverse department, providing advice and guidance to staff on financial processes

We are looking for someone:

  • Qualified to GCSE/NVQ level 3 or has the relevant practical experience
  • Competent in using standard IT packages including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team
  • Has previous accounts experience and good customer service skills
  • Has AAT or other accountancy or bookkeeping qualifications - desirable but not essential

The funding for this temporary post is available until 30 September 2026 or return of the post-holder whichever is the earlier.

The post is part time - 30 hours per week, working days to be agreed.

Location: Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN (approx 2 miles south of city centre)
