In this role you will be responsible for supporting effective recruitment and outreach activity aimed at encouraging quality applications to the University of Reading from UK students. You will also promote the value of higher education in general and offer information to prospective students in line with the University’s commitment to widening participation.

Your role will divide into four parts: project-delivery where you will take responsibility for specific aspects of our recruitment and outreach work on campus (such as incoming school group visits and co-ordinating the student ambassador scheme); acting as a core representative for the University at in-school HE fairs and events; the handling of enquiries both by email and in person as part of function-wide enquiry team and supporting the organisation and delivery of Access Reading, which is the University of Reading’s transition scheme working with applicants from under-represented groups.

You will have:

  • Experience of working with UK schools or young people aged 16-19.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a wide range of people.
  • Experience of delivering presentations to a variety of audiences including students aged 16-19.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of issues impacting on higher education sector and how the student recruitment cycle operates in the UK.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • 1st degree or equivalent.

The role will be based in Reading but may involve some travel further afield to UCAS or 3rd party fairs, such as WhatUni or UK Universities Search fairs.

Safeguarding Requirements and Responsibilities

  • To undertake safeguarding training and follow the University’s Safeguarding Children & Adults at Risk Policy at all times.
  • To consider Safeguarding in Risk Assessment processes for events and activities you deliver.
  • To report any disclosures or concerns using the Safeguarding Incident Form and submit this to the UK Student Recruitment and Outreach team Designated Safeguarding Officer.

An Enhanced DBS with a child barred list check is required for this position. This role is a regulated activity. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.
