King’s College London is seeking to appoint two independent co-opted members to its Investment Sub-Committee, a vital part of the university’s governance framework. This is a stimulating and rewarding opportunity to help shape and oversee the investment strategy of one of the world’s leading universities, ensuring its financial sustainability and capacity to deliver on its mission in service of society.
The Investment Sub-Committee plays a pivotal role in guiding the university’s approach to managing its endowment and other invested funds. Its work directly influences the financial resources available to King’s, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives. The Sub-Committee is responsible for formulating and overseeing a robust investment policy, ensuring its effective implementation, and maintaining a balance between financial return, risk, sustainability, and ethical responsibility.
Members of the Sub-Committee are expected to bring technical expertise, independent judgment, and collegiate challenge to discussions. Members are actively involved in reviewing fund performance, assessing risk, meeting with external investment managers, and advising the Finance Committee on investment-related matters. The Sub-Committee also plays a key role in upholding King’s ethical investment commitments.
We are looking for candidates with strong technical investment management skills, ideally with experience in assessing funds and fund managers. Given the focus of the committee includes a focus on ESG from our managers, practical experience in ESG and sustainable investing is also highly desirable. Whilst not essential, knowledge of the private equity sector would also be helpful. Candidates should be financially literate, capable of interpreting complex materials, and confident in evaluating fund performance across asset classes.
Successful candidates will demonstrate analytical strength, strategic insight, and a genuine empathy for King’s mission and values.
